Stefano Bigi grew up between France and Italy, developing an early love for style and beauty. Entirely self-taught, he never followed a formal design education — after a brief stint at university, he chose to learn through practice rather than theory, working various jobs in close contact with industrial production before finding his way into web design. Twenty-one years ago, he began sketching sofas, decorative objects, and his true passion: chairs. At 31, he decided to devote himself fully to furniture and decorative object design. Since 2005, he has been based in Milan, running his own company, Stefano Bigi Design Studio.

” Design, to me, is an endless search for the right balance between beauty and comfort, form and function. I aim to create emotion and invite people to genuinely interact with my furniture. My focus is on those who value individuality over uniformity, whatever their needs or desires may be. I design furniture for those who see a chair as more than just a seat. My pieces are meant to be lived with, not displayed in museums. These round, harmonious forms seek to create a distinct atmosphere — a personal space. Home furniture should be a source of desire, not a constraint. Comfort remains paramount, since desire is simply a natural by-product of my work.

If the design seduces, comfort is what builds lasting loyalty. To me, a piece of furniture is never just a designer’s creation — it results from the collaboration between the designer’s vision and the manufacturer’s technical skill, balancing form with real-world constraints. This pursuit of balance between innovation and rationalization is what keeps pushing me toward new possibilities.”
